I’ve been deep in projects for some months now, trying to work my way through things as I learn how to create in new mediums. A few of the things I’ve been up to:
- Learning about pinhole photography: I’m working in large format film (4″x5″) at the moment, and developing this myself. The chemistry, the process of creation, and the experience of drawing an image out of nothing, fixed in silver, has given me a number of ideas, and I’m pushing on that front to learn more.
- Learning more about instant photography: I have a particular project I’m working on with this: an analog tarot deck. I think it’s going to take a lot of time, but I’m excited to see how it comes out. To do this, I’ve picked up a Mint Twin Lens Reflex (TLR) camera that kicks out film instantly. You can see some of the result of me learning that on the PrayerADay challenge over on Facebook, where I’ve got a little album going for this month’s challenge.
- Shooting more 35mm analog film: I’ve been deeply enjoying taking some photos with my Pentax ME Super, and a couple of other cameras. I have one camera that I need to finish a roll on, and then I’ll have an unboxing video for you to check out. I’m actually quite excited about this camera.
- I’m planning a workshop for next year on photography: Examining how we connect with the earth and sky through the medium of photography, particularly analog photography, has become a bit of a fascination for me. I’m likely to float this into a couple of small videos for Patreon, as well.
- I’m reactivating the Tending the Flame of Hope page on Facebook as well, in light of the election. I don’t know what it’s going to look like yet, but it seems like the least of the things I can do, and if I can’t do the least of things, how can I do more?
I’ve also done some work remediating documents for accessibility in the recent past, both professionally and for others.
But the biggest thing I’ve been up to recently has been just managing to keep on. And that got a bit harder for many folks after last night. So, I’m intending to step a bit more into visibility, to focus on projects you can see… so I hope you’ll see more of me here, too.
We’re in this together. I’m here. And I’m going to be here for a while, if I can make it so.
