We’ve been added to the list of vendors for the Ohio Department of Corrections (ODoC), and one item listed as an approved product for sale is small, wooden Thor’s hammers for inmates.
I took this up as a challenge to create something simple, yet efficient, without glue or metal. Once I had the process down, it seemed like a good idea to make a TikTok about it (because, you know, why not?), but I had some trouble with the sound and length, so I uploaded the original (above) to YouTube.
Basically, with TikTok, I ran into a copyright issue with the music (which is properly licensed, but I can’t navigate their system well enough to prove it; YouTube is much easier), so I ended up using a minute-long clip of the Immigrant Song, which TikTok provides licensing for and was frankly awesome; and the length proved too long, so I just sped up the whole thing. It was a complicated process, to say the least, to get it up on TikTok, but it’s finally there.
They had to fit a certain size requirement, and I’ve gotten them down to a pretty good process. The pin in the top spreads the wood in the handle to fit snug against the interior, resulting in a strong friction fit that holds everything together beautifully.
You can find the product, of course, on our website.
And, you can find my TikTok @chronarchy, of course.
