We went in and <a href=\"http:\/\/www.musee-moyenage.fr\/ang\/images\/pages\/bitmaps\/plan_musee_1.gif\">found him in the Frigidarium<\/a> (the Mus\u00e9e de Cluny is built on an old Roman bath house)<\/p>\n<p><center><a href=\"http:\/\/www.chronarchy.com\/images\/wwf05\/esus01.jpg\"><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"http:\/\/www.chronarchy.com\/images\/wwf05\/esus01sm.jpg\" width=\"200\" height=\"200\" \/><\/a><br \/>\n<span>Esus<\/span><\/center><\/p>\n<p>I was, I admit, in awe. remains legible.<br \/>\nNote the beard, the torcs, and the antlers on which they hang<\/span><\/center><\/p>\n<p>Around the corner from Cernunnos was a guy called Smertios, possibly a Hercules sort of guy, and seems vaguely identified with that Roman deity.<\/p>\n<p><center><a href=\"http:\/\/www.chronarchy.com\/images\/wwf05\/smertrios01.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" src=\"http:\/\/www.chronarchy.com\/images\/wwf05\/smertrios01sm.jpg\" width=\"200\" height=\"200\" \/><\/a><br \/>\n<span>Smertrios<br \/>\n(last part of this name recostructed)<\/span><\/center><\/p>\n<p>Around the corner again, we find Castor and Pollux:<\/p>\n<p><center><a href=\"http:\/\/www.chronarchy.com\/images\/wwf05\/castor01.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" src=\"http:\/\/www.chronarchy.com\/images\/wwf05\/castor01sm.jpg\" width=\"200\" height=\"200\" \/><\/a> | <a href=\"http:\/\/www.chronarchy.com\/images\/wwf05\/pollux01.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" src=\"http:\/\/www.chronarchy.com\/images\/wwf05\/pollux01sm.jpg\" width=\"200\" height=\"200\" \/><\/a><br \/>\n<span>Castor | Pollux<\/span><\/center><\/p>\n<p>I headed over to block 1, and started snapping pictures of that block, finding with this pair of paired divinities:<\/p>\n<p><center><a href=\"http:\/\/www.chronarchy.com\/images\/wwf05\/venus01.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" src=\"http:\/\/www.chronarchy.com\/images\/wwf05\/venus01sm.jpg\" width=\"200\" height=\"200\" \/><\/a> | <a href=\"http:\/\/www.chronarchy.com\/images\/wwf05\/mars01.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" src=\"http:\/\/www.chronarchy.com\/images\/wwf05\/mars01sm.jpg\" width=\"200\" height=\"200\" \/><\/a><br \/>\n<span>&#8220;Venus&#8221; Anyone want to make a better stab at it than I did?<\/p>\n<p>I also snapped a picture of the explanation they had on the wall:<\/p>\n<p><center><a href=\"http:\/\/www.chronarchy.com\/images\/wwf05\/pillar-plaque02.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" src=\"http:\/\/www.chronarchy.com\/images\/wwf05\/pillar-plaque02sm.jpg\" width=\"200\" height=\"200\" \/><\/a><br \/>\n<span>Of course, it&#8217;s in French<\/span><\/center><\/p>\n<p>I admit that I stood rooted to the floor for a good amount of this. I did not touch the relief, though I very much wanted to. In fact, there was nothing I wanted more. Meghan asked to snap a photo of me with the pillar, so that everyone could see what the size was.
