The Hawthorn Tree<\/u><\/i><\/h1>\n

Dedicated to my Hawthorn, who stood in the Chadwick Arboretum until the winter of 2000. In memory of him.<\/span><\/p>\n

Tonight I mourned the Hawthorn tree
\nWho I had bonded with my soul
\nTo help protect myself in times of need.
\nSix months ago I did not know
\nWhy my life suddenly confused,
\nBut now I see that his protection
\nWas gone from my heart.
\nI will keep that Hawthorn\u2019s memory
\nIn my Heart and in my Head
\nThough blood did tie my life to his
\nAnd nothing can replace his strength.<\/p>\n

When I mourned tonight
\nThe Hawthorn tree gave me wisdom:
\n\u201cGo to her, and protect her as I did you,
\nAnd know that my strength,
\nMy love and my protection
\nIs yours to give to her.\u201d
\nKnowing this I turned away
\nFor the Hawthorn had done his duty.
\nThough my blood is still pained
\nBy the loss of a brother,
\nHis strength lives on through me.<\/p>\n

Tonight I saw her late,
\nAfter my mourning was done.
\nWith her beautiful eyes upon mine
\nI swore to the Hawthorn tree
\nThat he would live though me.
\nI know she doubts me sometimes
\nThat she gives up hope and sighs,
\nBut I will always be there for her
\nThrough my life and through my love,
\nAnd I hope that she will do the same
