I’ve just finished the first draft of the next book; while I didn’t love the process, I adore the format of the book I did on divination<\/a>, so I’m looking to add another book to the series, while also creating a whole new process.<\/p>\n

This one is so much better.<\/p>\n

I’m using Adobe InDesign to publish this book, which is (shockingly) exactly what this particular product was designed to do<\/em>. Amazing how much easier it is to complete a project with the right tools!<\/p>\n

These books are designed to be really basic, because we’re putting them together really just for the Shop, but this one talks a lot about the modern High Days (just like the title suggests), so it might be a good resource for Dedicants, too.<\/p>\n

Clocking in at exactly the same size as the divination book (24 total pages, including the covers), it’ll be full color, with photos and some line drawings (fewer than the last book) to supplement. Once again created without generative AI, it’s another labor of love.<\/p>\n

The format has some weaknesses; like the first one, I discovered that “basic” really is the name of the game. Here, I found that the book is rather northern-hemisphere-centric, which bothers me a bit, and that it leans heavily into Celtic and Norse lore. A large part of me is okay with these limitations, but only because it’s designed to be a basic survey. This isn’t a comprehensive High Day book full of deep research and a deconstruction of the traditions and timings. It’s a beginner’s introduction, and I made sure to note those shortcomings in the text.<\/p>\n

Still, I really like this format, and I love what I’ve written. The audience is really designed for someone who doesn’t know what to do for a High Day that’s coming up, and just needs a resource to work from. I think it’ll serve that crowd extremely well… and might be a useful resource for the ADF <\/a>Dedicant Path<\/a> or Hearth Keeper’s Way<\/a>, too.<\/p>\n

So, now it’s time to edit, re-read, and proof the entire thing. I’m still taking photos for some of the sections to fill out the design, but I really like how it looks, and I can’t wait to get copies in.<\/p>\n
